Lofree OE909 Wireless Mouse

The Lofree Touch EO909 boasts a retro design yet surprises with its versatility as a gaming or office mouse. Weighing 106 grams, its PBT keycaps and matte body offer a comfortable grip. Equipped with a PixArt PAW3805 optical sensor supporting up to 3000 DPI and glass compatibility, it falls short in gaming due to its 500Hz polling rate. It's not ideal for fast-paced FPS games but performs well for work or leisurely titles like Civilization or Age of Empires. Despite gaming limitations, its functionality and comfort make it a suitable choice for productivity tasks.

THE GOOD
  • Crisp OLED display
  • Replaceable buttons
  • Good build quality
  • Multiple connectivity options
  • Unique design
  • Good battery life
THE BAD
  • No software
  • Limited keycaps
  • Mediocre sensor
  • Limited DPI customization

The Lofree OE909 Wireless mouse stands out with its blend of retro aesthetics and modern functionality. It swaps the conventional left and right buttons for unique PBT keycaps resting on Cherry MX-style stems. Additionally, a small OLED display showcases vital details like DPI settings, battery status, and connection mode.

Offering three connectivity modes and a 500Hz polling rate, this mouse provides versatility. However, it leans towards bulkiness, weighing 106 grams. On the bright side, it boasts replaceable keycaps, adding to its durability. Connectivity-wise, it offers Bluetooth or 2.4GHz via the USB dongle provided, along with the convenience of wired usage for uninterrupted use even when the battery runs low.

Packaging

The Lofree Touch EO909 mouse arrives in a compact package. Encased in durable minimal cardboard packaging, the box features side panels showcasing photos and specifications. Upon unboxing, you’ll find the Lofree OE909 mouse, essential accessories, and a product information guide. However, there is no software support.

The packaging includes:

  • Lofree OE909 mouse
  • USB Type-A to Type-C charging cable
  • Wireless dongle
  • Quick start guide

Additionally, for those who order extra keycap sets will receive a Lofree keycap puller.

Design

The Lofree Touch EO909 flaunts a unique design featuring non-standard keycaps, the unique stem placement restricts keycap compatibility. It offers shell upgrades and delivers an extended battery life despite requiring a click to awaken from idle mode in 2.4GHz.

Measuring 55 mm (2.16 inches) in grip width and 108 mm (4.25 inches) in length, the mouse boasts a high profile at 42.5 mm (1.67 inches) and flat sides lacking the typical symmetrical curves. While it may resemble an ergonomic mouse due to the thumb rest, it remains a symmetrical mouse at its core.

Weighing 106 grams), the mouse impresses with sturdy ABS plastic and thick PBT keycaps, offering a solid feel and minimal creaking. Yet, issues arise with severe wobbling in the main clicks and unsatisfactory switches without stabilizers.

The curved housing around the scroll wheel limits standard keycap usage, necessitating Lofree’s specific keycaps. Available in “Tofu” or “Block” colors, the EO909 showcases a retro-futuristic design,.

The OLED screen, displaying DPI, battery life, and connection method, adds functionality without distraction during gameplay. Although not easily visible at typical angles, it’s convenient for settings adjustments. The absence of companion software reinforces this mouse’s self-sufficiency.

With a DPI button allowing instant adjustments within presets of 800 to 4000 and manual DPI control through the scroll wheel, the Lofree Touch EO909 offers customization without a companion software.

Performance

The Lofree Touch EO909 utilizes a PAW3805 optical sensor suitable for most surfaces, including glass. However, its performance isn’t ideal for gaming due to its small size, awkward shape, and discomfort for larger hands. The thumb rest adds little comfort, contributing to its overall awkward feel.

Weighing 106 grams, the mouse feels heavy without compensating with additional functionalities typical in heavier mice. The PixArt PAW 3805 sensor, while not terrible, lacks precision and fluidity, especially for gaming purposes, despite supporting a 3000 DPI max and 500 Hz polling rate.

The 2.4 GHz wireless connection performs well, exhibiting minimal latency, unlike Bluetooth, which experiences noticeable jitteriness. The left and right clicks offer a tactile feel with good travel distance, resembling mechanical switches, albeit lacking a quiet operation.

Two additional side buttons and a rubbery scroll wheel complement the design, while easily swappable keycaps, though limited in selection, offer a touch of customization. Comfort-wise, it suits smaller hands for extended use, excelling in office and daily home tasks.

However, for gaming, it falls short. The mouse isn’t suitable for fast-paced games due to its polling rate limitations. Despite multiple connectivity options—USB Type-C cable, Bluetooth, and wireless dongle—the Lofree Touch EO909 leans towards office and daily usage rather than gaming.

In summary, the Lofree Touch EO909 impresses with its build quality and comfort for daily tasks but lacks gaming prowess due to its weight, sensor limitations, and shape. Its connectivity options cater more to office and home use, making it a favorable choice for retro gadget enthusiasts but not ideal for gaming aficionados.

Lofree OE909 Software & Battery Life

Lofree chose a software-free approach for the Touch mouse, offering a custom DPI button. Setting a custom DPI involves pressing the DPI button for three seconds, adjusting with the scroll wheel, and saving by pressing the middle wheel. However, the DPI adjustment, only in 200 DPI increments, feels limiting, catering more to casual users.

Regarding battery life, the Lofree Touch EO909 boasts a 650 mAh battery, quick to charge and lasting up to 75 hours as claimed by the company. Its impressive longevity supports heavy usage for a full week or more, making it an excellent feature.

Lofree OE909 Verdict

The Lofree Touch EO909 boasts a retro design yet surprises with its versatility as a gaming or office mouse. Weighing 106 grams, its PBT keycaps and matte body offer a comfortable grip. Equipped with a PixArt PAW3805 optical sensor supporting up to 3000 DPI and glass compatibility, it falls short in gaming due to its 500Hz polling rate. It’s not ideal for fast-paced FPS games but performs well for work or leisurely titles like Civilization or Age of Empires. Despite gaming limitations, its functionality and comfort make it a suitable choice for productivity tasks.
