Connectivity
The Y44w offers a great range of connectivity with 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 2 x HDMI 2.0 and 2x USB type-C offered for video connections. These are located on the back of the screen along with 2x USB 3.1 ports.
Both DisplayPort and HDMI will support variable refresh rates from AMD graphics cards and games consoles. The screen has an internal power supply and the power cable comes included.
Lenovo has placed two USB 3.1 and the headphone jack in a pop-out panel just below the logo at the bottom bezel, making it very convenient, since you don’t have to reach for the rear panel.
Build Quality:
Measuring at 43.4-inches and with a curvature of 1800R, the Lenovo Legion Y44w is quite hefty and lengthy. The Y44w comes mostly in a black design, with matte plastics for the bezel and enclosure. There is a grey “Legion” logo in the middle of the bottom bezel along with a few more on the bottom right area where the OSD buttons are located. There is a 3-side borderless design on this screen but panel borders are still present when in use.
It’s worth noting that you will need a lot of tabletop space for the Lenovo Y44w-10. The screen is about 3.5 feet wide so make sure that you have enough desk top room for the monitor.
Build quality is pretty solid. There is no wobbling or rattling once you’ve set your desired viewing angle and no visual defects either.
The base is very sturdy and in the shape of a boomerang with some circular cut-out design patterns. There are some blue trimmed areas within the circular cut-outs and also along the bottom edge of the foot. The stand offers a good range of adjustments. You can tilt, swivel and adjust the height, and although its smooth to use, it is quite stiff. The base also holds a USB speaker that’s tuned by Harman Kardon.
The back of the monitor features a beautiful honeycomb layout which looks amazing. The OSD buttons are easily reachable and have great feedback when pushed.
Audio
A detachable USB powered speaker by Harman Kardon comes with the Legion Y44w. It’s can be placed anywhere, but Lenovo meant for the speaker to plug-in in with the stand and sit just right below the monitor. The speaker lights up with RGB once it’s switched on.
We like the overall sound quality of the Harman Kardon speakers. The device has great detail and bass response compared to built-in speakers. However, we know serious gamers will still prefer headsets, but it’s a nice addition nonetheless.
Display:
The Lenovo Y44w-10 features a 43.4-inch 3840 x 1200 resolution VA panel, 144Hz refresh rate and a 4ms response time. Contrast is rated at 3000:1, while the backlight has a typical 380 cd/m2 output with a 450 cd/m2 maximum for HDR. The screen’s 1800r curve is more immersive thanks to the 32:10 format which makes the corners farther, yet visible to your peripheral vision.
The Lenovo Y44w-10’s native resolution is pretty much equal to two 24-inch monitors without the bezels, making it ideal for those who work with a main and a secondary monitor. Having the screen space of two separate displays in a single monitor is impressive, especially for immersive gaming and multitasking.
The monitor is compatible with Lenovo Artery. The app lets you adjust the settings directly within your software so accessing commonly used such as brightness or the RGB sliders isn’t difficult.
The Lenovo Y44w-10 features FreeSync2 HDR, but also works with G-Sync on GPUs that support it. However, the product has not yet been tested and certified by Nvidia .
Gaming & Productivity
The Lenovo Legion Y44w comes with a refresh rate of 144HZ and AMD FreeSync 2 technology, paired with a VESA certified DisplayHDR 400. We played Forza Horizon 5 on it, and the experience is intense and incredible. Color reproduction is bright and vibrant.
Since the Legion Y44w acts as two monitors put together, it’s also ideal to use it as a wide-screen work monitor, instead of having two separate monitors and switching from one to the other.
