CrowView Note

With its own keyboard and battery, the CrowView Note is comparable to the Elecrow portable screen that we evaluated a while ago. It is a promising device with a lot of potential. It's a great option for those who prioritize portability and want to build a custom, compact workstation around a Raspberry Pi or similar device. However, its reliance on adapter boards and somewhat fragile build quality are drawbacks to consider.

THE GOOD
    THE BAD

The Elecrow CrowView Note is an intriguing concept: a 14-inch monitor with a built-in keyboard, touchpad, and speakers, designed to be the heart of a compact, portable workstation. On paper, it’s a dream come true for Raspberry Pi enthusiasts and anyone seeking a versatile, all-in-one solution. Here is the link to back them up on Kickstarter.

Does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive in.

CrowView Note Out of the Box

The CrowView Note arrives in a straightforward package, containing the device itself, an AC adapter, a Raspberry Pi 5, adapter interface boards, and a user manual. It’s everything you need to get started, though we did wonder why they didn’t include a carrying case given the portable nature of the product.

      CrowView Note Design and Build

The Note features a sleek, laptop-like design that’s both stylish and practical. The CrowView Note has a sleek and modern design, resembling a compact laptop, this all-in-one design includes an integrated screen, keyboard, touchpad, and speakers. For consumers who need a portable display with multiple functions, this makes it a great option.

The plastic build feels sturdy enough for everyday use, but we have reservations about its long-term durability. It’s definitely not built like a tank and could benefit from a bit more reinforcement.

The 14-inch Full HD IPS display is a standout feature. Colors are vibrant, and viewing angles are impressive. The 300 cd/m2 brightness is sufficient for most indoor environments. The keyboard and touchpad are functional but lack the premium feel of higher-end laptops. They get the job done, but don’t expect a typing experience to rival a dedicated mechanical keyboard.

Connectivity is decent, with USB-A, Mini HDMI, and Type-C ports covering most bases. The built-in speakers are serviceable for casual listening but don’t expect audiophile-quality sound.

      CrowView Note Usage

The CrowView Note functions as a portable notebook without an integrated computer, allowing users to connect their own devices. When paired with the Raspberry Pi 5 using the provided adapter boards, it transforms into a mobile computing station. The device is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery, enabling portability without being tethered to an AC outlet.

The versatility of the CrowView Note extends to various devices, including desktop-mode smartphones like the Galaxy S24 Ultra with Samsung DeX, as well as mini PCs and gaming consoles. Users can easily switch between devices using HDMI or USB-C connections, making it a flexible tool for both work and play.

Battery life is decent but varies depending on the connected device and usage. Expect a few hours of light use before needing a recharge.
