Choosing the right smartphone is not an easy task. In this case, while the Samsung Galaxy S22 and iPhone 13 are strong contenders, the HUAWEI P50 features stellar cameras, a unique look, and long battery life with fast charging speeds.
Cameras
Following the legacy of past P-Series phones, the HUAWEI P50 comes with outstanding cameras. The phone features True-Form Dual-Matrix Camera that comprises the Main Camera Matrix and SuperZoom Matrix. Here you are getting a 50MP True-Chroma Camera, a 13MP Ultra-Wide angle camera, and a 12MP telephoto camera. The phone also has a 13MP selfie camera. Aside from the hardware, the HUAWEI XD Optics and HUAWEI XD Fusion Pro image engine results in brighter and cleaner images with more details. You will also see some drastic improvements in colours because, this time, Huawei tweaked over 2000 colours in the full colour gamut. On top of that, the new Super Colour Filter system, True-Chroma Engine, and Super HDR technology work behind the scenes to improve the details, colours and dynamic range. What’s more, the True-Form Dual-Matrix Camera supports 4K video recording on both the front and rear, providing crystal clear footage from every angle.
The periscope zoom lens on the HUAWEI P50 is something that you will find quite useful. Using this camera, which has a zoom range of up to 80 times, you can bring faraway objects closer and take some incredible photos. To help users capture better images, the phone also has the new generation of AIS Pro image stabilisation technology and the all-new OIS hardware. Additionally, the phone brings notable improvements with high-speed autofocus, zero-latency shutter, smart metering, and motion-blur reduction technologies.
The Samsung S22 comes with three cameras on the back and one selfie camera. The main camera system includes a 12MP ultrawide, a 50MP wide-angle, and 10MP telephoto cameras. The telephoto shooter supports 3X optical zoom and 30X hybrid zoom. The new Nightography feature helps users with low light and nighttime shooting. Talking about selfies, you get a 10MP front-facing camera that offers decent picture quality.
The camera system on the iPhone 13 is almost the same as that of the iPhone 13 mini, both in terms of design and specifications. Wide and Ultrawide cameras are arranged diagonally inside the square camera module, and both of them use 12MP sensors. Although these cameras can take good pictures, the lack of a telephoto lens might be a huge deal for some people. Under most conditions, it would be hard to tell apart images taken with the iPhone 12 from that of the iPhone 13, except for low light conditions in which the newer phone is better.
Design
The HUAWEI P50 will be easy to tell apart from other phones with the iconic Dual-Matrix camera design. It perfectly balances form and function. The double ring set-up is visually striking and instantly recognisable while incorporating the most advanced smartphone camera hardware. The HUAWEI P50 uses a 6.5-inch True-Chroma Display supporting the full P3 colour gamut. It delivers a stunning visual experience for both video entertainment and gameplay alike.
The colour accuracy of the display is comparable to professional reference displays. Every display is professionally calibrated for maximum accuracy. The colour calibration method has also been upgraded from single-channel calibration to dual-channel calibration, enabling truer colours from corner to corner of the screen. Having a high refresh rate and 300 Hz touch sampling rate provides a faster display response time. With an IP68 rating, you can be sure you will be protected from the elements when out and about.
The design of the S22 looks quite familiar. The signature camera housing on the back, the flat screen, and the punch hole camera from the S21 are all here without any changes. There’s a slight difference in the feel of the device, though. The S22 is slightly boxier, and the edges feel sharper. Also, the phone has become a tad bit smaller. While the last year’s model had a 6.2-inch screen, the S22 comes with a 6.1-inch screen.
The iPhone 13 also hasn’t seen any notable design changes this time. In fact, the iPhone 13 looks pretty much the same as the last year’s model. One major difference is that this time the phone is thicker to fit in a larger battery. But the difference in thickness only becomes apparent if you compare the iPhone 13 with iPhone 12 side by side. You don’t get the high refresh rate screen present on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max in the regular iPhone 13, it also boasts a 6.1-inch display.
Battery and Charging
The HUAWEI P50 incorporates a 4,100mAh battery into its slim body while also supporting 66W HUAWEI SuperCharge for a quick top-up.
The battery capacity of the Samsung S22 is 3700mAh. Moreover, the 25W wired charging speed is also slower compared to the HUAWEI P50. Also, keep in mind that the 25W power adapter and cable do not come in the box.
The iPhone 13 is slightly thicker than the previous models because of the inclusion of a bigger battery. Apple doesn’t reveal the battery capacity of their phones. But from a practical perspective, the phone can get through an entire day.
