Tips to Save Battery on Your Android Device

The one thing about Android phones is that they can be charged soon. Also, they get drained soon. By the same token, there are many different ways to draw out the charge of an Android phone. Let’s see the most effective and easiest solutions on how to save battery on your Android phone.

Enable Adaptive Battery

Imagine you are listening to your favourite playlist while you are busy working on your laptop. Here, you don’t need maximum performance from your Android phone. How are you going to save the battery for simple activities like this?

In most Android devices, there’s an inbuilt feature called Adaptive Battery. The purpose of this handy feature is to use some special processes to extend the battery life. This is done by automatically managing the performance and efficiency of your phone in the background. Enabling the Adaptive Battery will help you save battery on Android.

How to enable Adaptive Battery?

Go to Settings > Battery > Adaptive preferences. Ensure that “Adaptive battery” is enabled. If not, flick it on.

Switch to dark mode

With the coming of OLED displays, Android phones (both mid-range and budget) allow individual pixels to dim or completely shut off on their own when not in use. This can save battery life to a great extent. To make things a lot easier, you can switch to your phone’s dark theme so that the pixels will be dimmer far more often.

How to switch to dark mode?

Go to Settings > Display/ Display & Brightness. From the two options (light mode and dark mode) above, select the dark mode. There will be also an option to automatically turn on dark mode during a particular time of the day. If you want to save battery, we recommend you keep your phone always on dark mode. Navigate through the different options in the ‘Dark mode settings’ to customize your dark theme.

Turn off the always-on display

Do you notice your Android getting drained quickly? It can be because of the always-on display. Despite companies’ testimonials that the always-on display will only drain about 1% to 2% an hour, this setting extracts so much energy from your smartphones.

How to turn off the always-on display?

Open the Settings app and locate the Lock Screen. In some phones, this option can also appear under “Display.” Find the option to “always show info” or a simple toggle to enable the Always On Display. Turn off the option. To ensure that you turn off this setting, check your lock screen. If the screen goes completely blank when you lock it, you did it right!

Remove unused accounts

Be it for personal or professional requirements, we often set up a new account. In most cases, these accounts are used only once. These accounts will constantly auto-refresh and drain your battery. You can remove these unused accounts to save your Android’s battery.

How to remove unused accounts?

Go to the Settings. Find the accounts section (on Samsung phones it’s called “Accounts and backup” and on Pixel phones, it is “Passwords & accounts”). From the list of all accounts synced to your phone, tap on the account you wish to remove. Scroll down to the “Remove account” button. Tap on it to see the unused accounts vanish into thin air.

Minimize notifications

Are you allowing your Android to send you a lot of notifications? Then, it is high time you should reduce them. Because these tiny snippets are the biggest drainers of your phone’s battery life. It is not just about the hums and hiss these notifications bring. Each time you receive a notification, the apps themselves are constantly refreshing in the background. Let’s fix it.

Go to Settings > Notifications > “App notifications”. You will see a list of all the apps installed on your phone. Against each app, there will be a toggle. You can flip it to disable all notifications for that specific app.

Adjust your display brightness and sleep time

Anyone who has tried to save some battery for Android might have done this. We thought we’d say it again as it is the easiest and most effective way to save battery.

How to adjust display brightness and sleep time?

Swipe down your home screen once or twice from the top. You can now see the quick settings menu. Under it, you’ll see a slider with a picture of the sun. Drag the slider to the left to decrease your brightness. If you want to reduce the time it takes for your phone to sleep, go to Settings > Display and change “Screen timeout”.

Turn off the “Hey Google” detection

Is your mic active and all set to hear you say, “Hey Google”? Sorry, your Android battery is draining. To avoid this, you need to turn off the trigger.

How to turn off the “Hey Google” detection?

Open the Google app and tap your profile picture in the top-right corner. Go to Settings > Google Assistant > Hey Google & Voice Match and turn off “Hey Google.”

If it’s that you have sound and haptic feedback enabled, your battery life is at risk. Because these keyboard sounds and haptics will make a series of vibrations whenever you type something. So, how do you turn it off?

How to turn off the keyboard sounds and haptics?

Open the Settings and locate “Language and input.” Find where you get to choose your default keyboard. Tap the gear icon next to it. If you’re a Gboard user, you’ll have to go to Preferences > Key press and disable “Sound on keypress” and “Haptic feedback on keypress.”
