Nothing Ear (open), Nothing’s first open wearable stereo (OWS) earbuds come with the slogan “Hear it all, feel it more”. But is it true to what it says? Let’s take a closer look at the tech specs of Nothing Ear (open).
(open) your world, ha ha ha!
Nothing Ear (open) earbuds sport an on-ear design with speakers resting outside your ears. Adding to their charm, they feature wrap-around skin-kind silicone ear hooks. These three ear hooks are arranged from thin to thick making them extra flexible and comfy. Next is their design keeping up the now signature translucent Nothing look with their semi-transparent design. They come in a triangle structure each weighing 8.1 grams (even though the Ear Open are the company’s heaviest earbuds to date, the hook will distribute the weight out across your ear). Both the buds and the case feature IP54 dust and splash resistance.
The new Ear (open) features 14.2mm titanium-coated drivers. They pair over Bluetooth 5.3 with support for dual-device pairing. Ok, so that’s about the build. What about the mics, the sound and the feel?
Each earbud packs dual mics and includes Nothing’s latest noise-canceling technology (Clear Voice Technology 3.0) to prevent outside noises from muffling your voice during a call. They house pinch controls for media playback, volume controls and call management.
Nothing Ear (open) arrives with Nothing’s newly developed Sound Seal System with directional speakers. This system minimizes sound leakage and ensures privacy (the sound waves at the front and back of the bud cancel each other out). The Open Sound Technology in the speaker acts as an open soundstage enabling you to hear everything around. Since they are ‘open’ to all sounds, they don’t offer active noise cancelation. Instead, the earbuds prioritize situational awareness and comfort. The earbuds are tilted at 50 degrees to position the speaker directly over the ear. This also makes it sit at the point of most comfort. Undoubtedly, making you feel like wearing nothing!
Where to connect?
Nothing Ear (open) works with the Nothing X app too. In the app, you can customize controls, tweak and share your EQ profiles and update their firmware. Besides being your audio ‘bud’dy, (open) supports Find My network. They use Bluetooth 5.3 with support for the AAC and SBC codecs. They can connect to two Bluetooth devices and swiftly switch between them offering a “Low Lag Mode” (low latency mode) for gamers. The pair also supports integrated ChatGPT connectivity which requires a Nothing phone to work.
Battery, Playtime and More
Ear (open) has 8 hours of playback from the buds and their 64mAh batteries. The 635 mAh cell inside the slim case (19 millimeters thick) extends total playtime to 30 hours. The charging is limited to USB-C with no wireless option. But a quick 10-minute charge with a USB-C cable will provide two hours of listening!
