The Motorola Edge 30 5G has a fantastic screen, a capable point and shoot camera and is the lightest 5G phone in the world. For the price point of AED 1599, the balance between design, hardware and software is great and a good recommendation for a capable everyday 5G smartphone.

The Motorola Edge 30 5G is the latest 5G mid-range phone from Motorola and is the world’s thinnest 5G smartphone. The device combines a 6.5inch Full HD AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, triple-camera setup, a Snapdragon 778G+ and a large4,020 mAh battery.

Design

The Motorola Edge 30 5G comes in three color options – Meteor Grey, Supermoon Silver, Aurora Green. Our review model is Aurora Green. The phone looks immaculately designed from all angles and feels premium in the hand.

Measuring 159.4 x 74.2 x 6.8 mm, a weight of 155hm and a 6.5-inch screen, this is a large but light and easy to use phone. On the front, is the 32MP selfie camera. At the bottom is the SIM tray which can run up to two SIM cards. The buttons are all placed on the right – volume up/down and power button.

At the back, the camera bump is placed in the upper-left corner and consists of a 50MP main, 50MP ultrawide, 2 MP macro and dual LED flash. The fingerprint sensor is integrated with the power button and is fast to recognize and unlock.

At the bottom is the USB-C 2.0 port for charging and the speaker grille. Unfortunately, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack.

Display

The Motorola Edge 30 5G comes with a 6.5-inch 1080×2400 pixels AMOLED screen with support for HDR and has a high refresh rate. The display is fantastic with natural colors and good sharpness. Viewing angles are great and the animations are extremely smooth thanks to the high refresh rate which can be adjusted to either to 60Hz, 144Hz or auto.

Browsing and navigating on the Edge 30 is fluid and buttery smooth. The 10-bit panel is highly color accurate with good contrast ratios and brightness.

While the display is HDR10+ compliant, apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime can’t stream in HDR on the device.

Connectivity

As the name suggests, the Motorola Edge 30 5G is a 5G phone and supports dual SIMs. In terms of connectivity, it supports WiFi, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and GPS. Phone calls are loud and clear and Wi-Fi & 5G speeds are excellent.

Performance

The Motorola Edge 30 5G features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G+ processor, Adreno 642L GPU, 6GB of RAM and 128GB built-in memory. The chipset is powerful and the performance is great with no visible delay or lags. It has plenty of power to run most games without issues.

Camera

The Motorola Edge 30 5G has a triple camera setup with a 50 MP main, 50MP ultrawide and 2MP depth.

The 50MP main camera produce photos rich in details and sharpness during the day with quick focus. The HDR does a very good job: it maintains the dynamic range despite the scene being backlit.

The secondary 50MP ultra-wide camera produces crisp images on par with what most of the competition and offers a wide dynamic range with good colors and contrast. The ultra-wide-angle lens can also be used for macro shots with good detail although colors are not so vivid.

In low light conditions, the Motorola Edge 30 5G produces decent details with acceptable sharpness.

The 32MP portrait and selfie camera images of Motorola Edge 30 5G are quite good and natural-looking. There is no overprocessing of skin tones.

Videos can be recorded with the 50 MP camera at a maximum of 8K and 30 FPS or 1080p at 60fps. The video quality is decent but can end up shaky. There is also a slow-mo movie mode with 240 fps and a super slow-mo movie mode that goes up to 960 fps.

OS

The Motorola Edge 30 5G comes with an almost stock version of Android 12 without much bloatware. Motorola includes a number of gestures, adjustments and options such as attentive display, peek display which provides notifications on the lock screen with a single tap, activate the flashlight with a shake motion and a lot more.

Battery

The phone comes with a large 4,020mAh battery, which can last a about half a day of use. As for charging, Motorola Edge 30 5G has a 33W fast power charger, which will take the phone from 0 to 100% in about 1 hour 30 minutes.

Audio

The Motorola Edge 30 5G has speakers located at the bottom of the phone. The sound is loud and deep. The microphones also offer very good audio quality during calls.
